A package called FoxBase runs on SCO/XENIX. I don't know if it runs on other UNIX systems. If you are looking for a database programming language but are not tied to dBaseIII syntax. We have a package with a programming language that has a syntax like SAS but with btree random access support. Our package is called PRODAS. Does anyone care to share any thoughts they may have on Unix databases. A company that I am working for is looking to purchase a database package for a newly acquired Sun3/280. We also have quite a few Macintoshes and PC's which we would like to use as well. They are all connected on an ethernet network running throughout the building. Most of our database development has up to now been done on Macs (4th Dimension) and PC's (Knowledgeman, Dbase). We are looking for a more robust package that will run on our Suns Our idea is to use some package that allows the processing to be distributed. The backend being done on the Sun3 and the user-interface, front-end stuff on the PC's and Mac's. We are looking at Oracle potentially right now as the major contender. There prices seem steep but they seem to have the only product that supports all three platofroms in a distributed environment. Any opinions/experiences with Oracle would be GREATLY appreciated as well as any other insightful comments. Thanks Tony Gale Internet: ag09@andrew.cmu.edu Phone: (412) 325-1776 FAX: (412) 733-1799

I am interested in manipulating Informix SQL database files/tables using C-ISAM or any other Record-at-a-time access method (as opposed to ESQL/C). Has anybody ever done this before? I am of the opinion that ESQL/C and 4GL were actually built on top of C-ISAM but I have found no literature to this effect. Email will be greatly appreciated! Thanx --Emuleomo O.O.
