[comp.databases] Free Text Databases - II

kam@itivax.iti.org (Keith A. McNabb) (05/15/89)

Someone has asked about the results of my survey of free text
databases, and I am unable to get through to him via email.
So far, I've had one recommendation for AskSam and I've
received a quite impressive description of a system Earl
Kinmonth developed at Berkley. However, I will probably
be staying with the BRS/SEARCH system for our immediate need,
as it is quite powerful and we have already paid the
susbstantial licensing fee.

BRS requires the insertion of unique field headings in
a pre-existing text file, but the fields can be configured
with great flexibility (all numeric, date only, unlimited size,
etc.) and it has a vast array of search operators.
