[comp.databases] Object Oriented Database Survey...

john@comp.lancs.ac.uk (John R. Nicol) (06/15/89)

There seems to be growing interest in Object Oriented Database (OODB)
research. I for one would love to know more about who is working on OODBs
and what (near) commercially available OODBs exist.

Has anyone conducted a survey of OODBs (including for example Iris,
Galileo, Gemstone, Vbase, Encore...)? If so, I'd be very grateful to learn
of such work -- particularly if it addresses the various data modelling
approaches used by the designers and what feature(s) are novel etc. Has
anyone tackled an OODB design which takes distribution into account?

Naturally, I would be happy to summarise any information I receive for
the benefit of other readers of this group.

Regards,
