[comp.databases] Best UNIX dbase II clone?

kg@elan.elan.com (Ken Greer) (08/11/89)

Our company is looking at moving our accounting
and customer support systems from a DOS network
environment to UNIX (probably a SUN-4). It's
all written in dbase III. Have there been any comparisons
of the various UNIX dbase clones? Any suggestions from real users?

B.t.w., we're looking for a contractor/consultant to do this job also.

Thanx.

There is only one package that I know of. It is called FOXBASE. It runs
under SCO XENIX, and is supposed to run under SCO UNIX/386, which means
it should also run under anybody else's UNIX/386, like ATT & Interactive.

Foxbase is a dbase II close, foxbase+ is a dbaseIII clone. You can
call SCO at (800) 726-8649 and get a q&a sheet that says what
compatibility/in-compatibility the package may have w/ the dbase
origonals.

This is not ment to be an SCO advertisement though. I'm just saying
that here is a place to start.

Good Luck,
Matthew.
