Help! Our department is going to Macs, Yeah!...but what data base should we use? We are curently using dBase III+ on DOS machines with limited success over our appletalk network. We want the following capabilities in our data base: 1 Have a functional network server data base that works effectively with the appletalk network. Allow for lock out accrding to different security levels, or selective displaing of information depending on the security level granted. 2. A report funtion that allows for "FORM" type reports. (More than one line of information printed out of each record). 3. The data base should also allow for customization of viewing screens, indexs, and reporting functions. 4. The data base should allow us to use relational (multiple data bases) in viewing information. Our biggest current problem is the ackward method of entering information into one screen that puts the data into two data bases in dBASE III+ on the DOS machines. We really would like to find an easier more reliable method to display a record, have a person enter information and have the information go to different data bases. Please send any suggestions to me at cbouscho@ub.d.umn.edu or post your answers to this news group. I will post a summary of the responses I receive through email if anyone is interested. Thanks for your help -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Bouschor II Remember Just Say No!...Don't Do DOS cbouscho@ub.d.umn.edu
