INGRES VERSION 5 (UNIX SYS V) backend question This is a technical question about the way in which the ingres backend exits (Version 5). When a ##ingres command is issued in equel/c, the calling unix process forks the backend, as far as I know. When a ##exit is issued, I assume the backend process exits and returns control back to the parent process. However, if a ##exit is not issued and instead the parent process is terminated, the backend too terminates on most but not all occasions, which is a bit confusing. I am interested in getting more info about exactly how the termination of the backend is handled internally (i.e., when and how does the backend exit?). Is there a set of circumstances under which it terminates gracefully? Thanks for any info in advance. Mohan Palat (att!ihlpl!mohan)
