Hello, I need help in choosing a database management system that will run under Microsoft Windows. In addition to Windows-compatibility, the dbms must do the following: 1. Support DDE so that it can be used to perform dbms work for my own Windows application. 2. Ability to download data from Unix-based SQL dbms (Informix) using asynchronous comm port. (using Xmodem, Kermit, or other popular protocol) 3. More than a flat-file capability (relational or hierarchical dbms would be good) Currently, I know of three possibilities: 1. SQLWindows from Gupta Technologies. I believe this one supports DDE, but am not sure if it will support asynchronous comm. 2. Superbase 4 for Windows from Precision Software (to be released in mid-October). Currently the system runs under GEM interface. Superbase 4 for GEM claims to have asynchronous comm capability, but I am not sure if it can do what I need (or if it is supported in Windows version). 3. Omnis Quartz from Blyth Software. They claim to support both DDE and asynchronous comm., but I was unable to do either with their evaluation package. Blyth Software claims they will ship Omnis 5 soon, and that it will do much more than Omnis Quartz, but I am somewhat reluctant to commit my project to a brand new product. If anyone has experience and/or further knowledge on these and any other Windows-based dbms products, an e-mail note will be greatly appreciated. If there is sufficient interest, I will summarize.
