I think what we need is a news group related to the development
and discussion of a public domain operating system. Whether the
OS is based on Xinu is open for discussion. It seems that there
should be a couple of subgroups inside it
source
general
specification
bugs
The subgroups have the following purpose
source collection and distribution of
OS sources, including the kernel,
utilities, etc
bugs bug announcements and fixes to
the sources. Should also include
a 'wish' list, but this could
come under the 'spec' group.
general general information and open
discussion of the OS and related
issues
specification a group that discusses features,
etc. of the OS
The newsgroup, and all subgroups should be moderated - this will
help cut out a lot of redundant stuff.
Any sources posted to the newsgroup are considered in the public
domain and available for complete distribution. Furthermore, we
should place the restriction that any distribution of the system
must include the sources, that any modifications made to the
sources are in the public domain and that no profit can be made
on the distribution of the system.
This is my suggestion.

You say that everything related to Xinu on the proposed newsgroup be in the public domain, and then go on to say that no profit can be made by distributing the system. Seems to me that if it is truly in the public domain, you shouldn't (and can't) restrict anyone from making a profit out of it if they are clever enough to do so.

Do we really need *four* new newsgroups for xinu? I really don't think
we even need one; the traffic about xinu hasn't been heavy enough to
be really noticeable, never mind objectionable.
