Dear Folks, We are looking for interested parties to participate in the "Average Vax Project". The purpose of the "Average Vax Project" is to bench mark a number of Vaxen to produce a measure of performance to be known as the "Average Vax" or "AV" (sort of like the "average candle" measure of light in physics). The benchmarking software used will be Aim Technologies "QBENCH" (part of their Suite 2 benchmarking software) dis- tributed in binary form. After "QBENCH" has been run on your machine(s) the results will be returned to us for analysis, and the development of an "Average Vax" measure of computer performance. The benchmarks takes about ten minutes to run and needs to be run on a system with no other users logged in. After running the benchmarks you will receive an immediate bench- mark of your machine from "OBENCH". The results of the project will be made available to the sites participating and will be presented in a paper at Usenix. The sites participating will be kept confidential. If you are interested in participating please send your name, address, phone number, UUCP address, number and types of Vaxen, version of Unix (4.2BSD, Ultrix, or System V), and affiliation to the following address (via UUCP). If you have any questions, just drop a note (via UUCP) and we will contact you to answer them. Thank you, Jordan J.
