                   Digital Equipment Corporation
             Database Systems Visiting Scientist Program 

The Database Systems Research Group of Digital Equipment Corporation
invites faculty members in Computer Science and Management Information
Systems to visit Digital during the 1990-91 academic year to perform
original research at Digital as a visiting scientist in database
systems theory and practice.  Topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:

Design and Management Tools for Distributed Relational Database 
Effects of New Storage and Communications Systems on Databases
Active Relational Databases
Highly Available Database Systems
Object-Oriented and Type-Extensible Databases
Image and Multimedia Database Management Systems

Research may be performed at Digital while on sabbatical leave for a
period of up to one academic year, or may be performed as a summer
project.

Interested parties should submit a proposal of not more than 6 pages
in length with an abstract and problem statement, summary of related
work in the area and brief description of proposed technical approach.  
Identify the duration of the project (summer, semester, or full
academic year) in the proposal.  A resume and publication list of the
applicant should accompany the proposal.
