Cullinet Software, as well as other software publishers, are believed to be working on products that add object-oriented features to mainframe products. Servio Logic Corp introduces the Gemstone system for the DEC VAX minicomputer. The product is available immediately. Ontologic Inc says its Vbase 1.0 will be available in Apr 1988. Vbase will be available for DEC systems in May of 1988 at prices starting at $14,900. Gemstone from Servio Logic Corp is a database server with an object-oriented programming language for data definition and manipulation. Gemstone ranges from $19,950 to $85,270. Vbase for Sun starts at $14,900, and DEC VAX versions range from $20,000 to $100,000. The Sun version is available, the VAX version will ship May 1988, and an Apollo version will be available 4th qtr 1988, ans OS-2 and Macintosh versions will follow. Prices will range from 10,000 for a workstation platform to $40,000 for a minicomputer and $80,000 for a large VAX. A VMS version is scheduled for release in June 1988.
