ABSTRACT Two software companies, Servio Logic Corp (Beaverton, OR) and
Ontologic Inc (Billerica, MA) develop object-oriented information
management systems. Cullinet Software, as well as other software
publishers, are believed to be working on products that add
object-oriented features to mainframe products. Servio Logic Corp
introduces the Gemstone system for the DEC VAX minicomputer. The
product is available immediately. Ontologic Inc says its Vbase
1.0 will be available in Apr 1988.

software packages to run on DEC VAX systems and workstations from
Sun Microsystems. Vbase will be available for DEC
systems in May of 1988 at prices starting at $14,900. Gemstone
from Servio Logic Corp is a database server with an
object-oriented programming language for data definition and
manipulation. Gemstone ranges from $19,950 to $85,270.

ABSTRACT Ontologic Inc introduces its Vbase object-oriented data base
management system (DBMS), with versions for Sun workstations
running UNIX and for Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) VAX VMS
systems. Vbase for Sun starts at $14,900, and DEC VAX
versions range from $20,000 to $100,000. The Sun version is
available, the VAX version will ship May 1988, and an Apollo
version will be available 4th qtr 1988, ans OS-2 and Macintosh
versions will follow.
