][ I'm doing some basic descriptive statistics with a database of survey results. My question: how to quickly count fieldnames and so forth for specific values. My feeling is that "count for field_A=12 to memvar_A", "count for field_B=26 to memvar_B", and so forth, would involve separate "count"s for each variable in the database. Obviously, the more variables and records, the longer this will take. Is there a better method for doing this? Would it help if each field counted were indexed? Stuffed into an array? (If so, how?) Also, using dBaseIV 1.0, have you noticed that when you create an input screen and limit the possible values allowed into a field (like 1, 3 and 7 as possible values), that the space of a one-digit field is stretched out? Why is this? It produces much larger spaces than are needed. -- michael regoli mr@cica.indiana.edu regoli@iubacs.bitnet ...rutgers!iuvax!cica!mr
