The 1990 VLDB Conference will be held in Brisbane 13-16 August 1990. Many overseas visitors will attend. Australia is a geographically large country, approximately 24 hours flying time and $U.S. 2,000-3,000 from both Europe and East Coast United States. Hence most visitors do not often come, and we miss the opportunity to have excellent researchers visit us. Melbourne (in the South) has four universities doing research in databases. La Trobe University of Melbourne Monash RMIT who would all welcome your giving either a 3 hour advanced short course, or a 1 hour seminar. The universities will share speakers and costs. We could offer extra airfares (often very little), accomodation and perhaps an honorarium.
