[comp.databases] InsideOut problems

kjm@daimi.dk (Kim Jensen Moeller) (03/13/90)

We are using InsideOut v. 1.2.1 from Shana Corp,
to program a database containing graphics and text on the
    Macintosh.

We have problems with upgrading a database from one schema
to another new schema. The changes are very simple, such
as adding a handle-field or a key. The problem is when a
new record is inserted into an updated database, the
record ID has been reset, and starts at 1, even though
there already exists eg. 20 records (record ids 1-20). Now
we have two different records with same record id. This of
    course leads to severe problems.

Further, if we are changing the order of two keys in a
view (consisting of two files), then IO sorts by another
key than we tell it to do!

We think that this is a problem beyond our control,
and like to hear any solution. Please e-mail, and we
    will summarize to the net.

Except for these two problems we think InsideOut is an
    excellent database product.
