[comp.databases] public domain data base programs?

I  have a very  undemanding need for a real  simple data base package,
and rather than write one myself, I thought perhaps there might be one
out there already.  Can anyone help me here?

I am on a sun4 in unix, and all  I need to do  is store references for
things I read, simple financial stuff like pay checks received, etc.
