Sybase and virtually every other major DBMS software vendor, as well as most
of the hardware vendors who matter in the DBMS world, are committed to the
work of the Transaction Processing Performance Council. The TPC is chartered
to develop a suite of standard benchmark specifications for transaction
processing and related performance measurements.
The first of these specifications, TPC-A is now available and TPC-B should
be out soon. These benchmarks are intended to provide rigorous replacements
for Debit-Credit and TP1. Subsequent TPC benchmarks will concentrate on
modeling other kinds of transaction processing performance, as in the
context of things like decision support, order entry systems, and many
others.
