After seeing Pro-C at Uniform and seeing it mentioned here, has anyone any words of wisdom about the package? They were to contact me about an evaluation copy but I've heard nothing from them and I'm too cheap to call overseas ($$$). Tony Holden ihnp4!killer!tony

Beware! I too was looking at this package; but Vestronix is radically altering their terms and instead of about 500 and no royalties, etc. they've gone to some crazy scheme costing over 2000 per month for 18 months, etc. (With lots of great "services" included, etc.) From my discussions with them, I dropped the package like a hot potato! Anyone want a almost new copy of Pro-C for DOS? Bron

'Hot potato' is an understatement. After they set up an arrangement with Raima to use the db_VISTA database as a backend to their code generator, they inexplicably changed the deal after getting a lot of inquiries from Vista's mailings. All of a sudden they were forcing gargantuan support fees onto anybody who wanted to use PRO-C. Our attempts at explaining a needless support requirement were met with condescending statements as to how we don't really know how difficult it is to write in C etc. etc. I basically told them to go to hell and stick their damn package where the sun ... We'll see how long they survive. fred -- Fred Rump "Do not meddle in the affairs of cats, for they are subtle and will 26 Warren St. piss on your computer." domain: fr@icdi10.compu.com Beverly, NJ. 08010 uucp: ...{bpa dsinc uunet}!cdin-1!icdi10!fr 609-386-6846 "Freude... First thing this morning, a call from the VP of Sales of Vestronics Corp. There now is apparently interest to sell the product as is for development purposes. A one-time charge, no royalties. Just what we were looking for in the first place. An evaluation copy will be on the way for use under SCO Xenix with db_VISTA as the backend. We shall see what it's all about and report back here. For those who tuned in late - PRO C is an application generator / development tool. fred PS It would be interesting to hear from users of PRO C. -- Fred Rump | UUCP: {uunet dsinc}!cdin-1!fred CompuData, Inc. | "Beware of cats for they are subtle and will .... on 10501 Drummond Rd. | your computer."
