I am reviewing various database packages for a (commercial) project here and one that has caught my attention is "Empress". I was wondering if anyone had any general comments about the package. To be a little more specific, the application is not huge, as long as performance is reasonable that's probably not an issue (e.g. human response times on simple queries against at most tens of thousands of records.) I'm more concerned with quality, completeness, compatability (e.g. is their SQL standard), experiences with the company, gotchas (e.g. funny licensing restrictions I might miss on first pass) and so forth. The most important thing would be robustness, I need a database that, relatively unstressed, just runs and runs (much more than I need "fancy".) I also need a reasonable C interface to the database. Any other suggestions welcome.
