I've just begun reading through "The Relational Model for Database Management: Version 2" by E.F. Codd and am already finding it to be very interesting. I would be interested in hearing what opinion is about Dr. Codd's claim that no product thus far purporting to support the relational model really supports even 50% of the relational model's features and that the standard for SQL is seriously flawed. I am not looking to start flame wars here between vendors (and possibly users), but a real theoretical discussion about where relational system are and should be going. One of the interesting points from early in the book is the notion that even Dr. Codd doesn't think the book fully describes the requirements for the relational model, but instead the book represents an evolution of the relational model to the next level. He has come down from the requirements of the RM/T model (?) to something that he thinks the relational world can accept. I find it interesting to think "what could be next?" -- =================================================================== David Masterson Consilium, Inc. uunet!cimshop!davidm Mt.
