I posted a followup, recently, to the question "Is Unify perfect?". In that followup I talked a bit about the Unify Users Group of Northern California (UUG/NC) as did another poster. I saw several followups that asked about our mailing list about Unify and Unify Products. So here's the scoop! Unify Users Group of Northern California sponsors a mailing list about Unify Corporation products. Anyone may post to this mailing list by sending to "UUG-dist@Transact.COM". To join the mailing list, respond to this poster (itkin@Transact.COM). The UUG/NC also sponsors monthly meetings with topics ranging from Unify products through CASE tools to PERL (at the upcoming meeting) to workstations to... We try to serve the needs of the membership and drop-ins (meetings are open to the public) through a variety of topics, not restricting ourselves solely to Unify. These meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 7PM in Mountain View, California. Anyone interested in attending should send a request to "UUG-request@Transact.COM" for additional information (the next meeting violates the scheduling rule because of July 4th, and has been moved to Thursday July 12th and features... Larry Wall, creator of PERL). UUG/NC also produces a monthly Newsletter, which has been given high praise both for presentation (kudos to our Editor, who does it all on his own) and content. We maintain an archive of past Newsletters, and also have a Library of contributions of articles and papers and code (tools, utilities, code fragments and examples - for instance chooks to work with Unify text fields inside ACCELL applications). If you'd like to participate in the mailing list, send to the address indicated above. If you're interested in joining our group, the membership dues are $50/year (prorated quarterly - $25 for the rest of this year), and you may send a request for information to UUG-request@Transact.COM. There are a number of other Unify Users Groups (under various names) around the country. We already provide complementary memberships to several as part of our effort to improve communication and increase our leverage with our vendor(s). If you are the leader or a member of one of the other groups, we'd like to hear from you. We are in the process of discussing having a National Users Group meeting during the Unify-sponsored Open Systems Application Development Conference in San Jose in early September. If you'd like to participate, please contact me. We're also discussing having some kind of display space for Users Groups. Same thing - contact me if you're interested. NONE OF THIS IS A DONE DEAL. But Unify is very responsive thus far (responsibility for the OSAD Conference just changed hands within Unify), and I expect we'll be able to make something worth- while happen there. ------------- Late Flash!!! I have tentative commitment from Unify (and the coordinators of the OSAD Con) that we will (a) have some booth/exhibit space for Users Groups and (b) that Unify may help fund and will provide a room for a Users Groups reception one evening of the Conference. If you represent a User Group, and would like to participate in either of the above, PLEASE contact me. I think we can make some good things happen! Let me know whether you'd rather see a Users Groups reception for repre- sentatives of Users Groups only, or an open reception co-sponsored by Unify and Users Groups. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : Steven List @ Transact Software, Inc. :^>~ : : Chairman, Unify User Group of Northern California : : {apple,coherent,limbo,mips,pyramid,ubvax}!itkin@guinan.Transact.COM :
