When migrating from 6.0.28 to 6.0.29 we discovered a bug in Oracle's handling of multi-line constraints under VMS in export/import files. If your constraint clause extends over multiple lines, the exported file can't be imported. The export file contains a '\n' in the constraint confusing the import process. Of course, we didn't dis- cover the problem until *after* the tables had been destroyed to make way for the re-imported data... Oracle Technical Support was helpful in tracking down the problem, but finding and repairing the bogus byte was tedious and laborious (you never really think about how big a 100MB file is, until you have to sift thru it...). Oracle has escalated the problem but they estimate a fix is still at least 1 month away. If you need additional information, contact Oracle, or, you can drop me a line. john noerenberg jwn2@wizard.qualcomm.com
