I am developing a system to help us find the right volunteers for specific projects. The purpose of the system is to allow a user to provide the system with a list of conditions, in this case a combination of individual skills, interests, and availability, and in return the system will provide the user with a list of names, address, and contact information. This is a list of tasks we like to do: A. Match specific projects with available volunteers 1. volunteer skills and interests must be match carefully 2. specific volunteer requests should be honored. B. Keep track of individual participation 1. prevent over-utilization of individuals in order to keep interest, enthusiasm, and long term participation high. 2. generate specific and individual letters of appreciation C. Summary reporting 1. individual participation level 2. total impact of volunteer effort on University affairs. This is a general list. What I am interested in is to hear from people who has used a similiar system or developed a similiar system. What software is best suited for such a system? Will a relational database such as dBASE,foxBASe,etc. do? Any ideas of where I should begin looking into? What kind of computer systems, PCs, Macs, Unix can be used? Any help will be appreciated.
