Has anybody used a commercial object-oriented database? There are several companies claiming to sell them, namely Object Design, Versant (formerly OBJECT-Sciences), Objectivity, Ontologic & Servio. There must be somebody out there who has used them. What are your experiences? Do they solve your problems, or are they more trouble than they're worth? Are they only good for huge projects that justify the learning curve? Having tried one out, do you believe in them? Are some much better than others? What is it about them that make them so good? (Don't get too theoretical - I don't know too much about them yet, although I've been programming in C++ for a couple of years now).
