Have you all heard that Ashton-Tate started shipping dBASE IV version 1.1
yesterday (7/31/90)?

Have you also heard that Ashton-Tate is a major investor in Sybase?

As the dBASE Development team likes to say "That was Ed, this is now."

Ashton-Tate sold their interests in Sybase a quarter or two ago to stem
the financial losses experienced by the lack of acceptance of dBASE IV
version 1.0. They needed the money. dBASE wasn't selling and they had
to stem the financial losses somehow.

I've been looking at dBASE IV 1.1 for a few days now and it's more stable
than the 1.0 release ... but that's not saying much. The performance
is better, but it looks like what they are doing is local cacheing of
executable overlays in local EMS memory. A cheap way to get faster if
I ever saw one! ( Smaller footprint, same big codebase.)

I'm glad that AT has FINALLY gotten a new version of dBASE "out the door,"
and is committed to bug fix releases every couple of months. Let's see it
happen for real this time. A-T's never made a dBASE date yet.
