[comp.databases] JAM Database Interface

drack@titan.tsd.arlut.utexas.edu (Dave Rackley) (08/03/90)

I am preparing an evaluation of the database interface product, JAM/DBi,
from JYACC, Inc. I'll be evaluating the product's interface with ORACLE
running on VAX/VMS v5.3 on a VAX 3500.

Has anyone used this product with ORACLE or other database's. I'd be
interested in either successes or failures, since my evaluation will
determine the product's suitability for a sizable data entry/data
retrieval project.

Thanks in advance.

Not to start any flame wars, but I did such an evaluation already.
The conclusion, at least for this projecct, was that while
the Jam Product with DBi beats the most of the competiton hand's
down because of the user interface capablities and the capablities
to tie fields to the database, we chose SQL*Forms V3.0 because
most of the default actions relating to the database could
be done directly. There are many great things about the Jam product.
If we had choosen to go with Informix, we would be using Jam
at this point. The Forms package supports a closer interconnect
	to the underlying database.

Oh Yes, if the choice is with Oracle V5.X or Forms 2.X, I would
be real tempted to use Jam/Dbi. Much more flexible.
