[comp.databases] Question : evealuating, testing a database

nimmagdd@motcid.UUCP (Venkat S. Nimmagadda) (08/09/90)

I am tring to test a ERA data base for the functionality and performance.
Can anybody give me some pointers as to the best way to go about this.

The method I have come up so far involves
  1) define a reasonably complex ER schema which uses all the facilities
of the database (various types of relations, attributes etc.)
  2) populate the database
  3) test DML and Query operations exhaustively.
  4) Gather some statistics on the way like times for insertion, deletion,
update and fetching under various conditions.

Do you think it's a reasonable test for the functionality? Any information,
schemas or benchmarks appreciated . I will summarise if there is enough
  interest. Thanks in advance.
