In one of my projects, I am using Sybase on Sun workstations for a distributed application. The database physically resides on one Sun 4/490 and the application runs on Sun 4/SLCs. The database is approximately 1GByte. The 4/490 is outfitted with two 1GByte drives - one for database, the other for OS and space for server based applications. In the metropolitan area the network is a collection of T bridged Ether segments. Remote sites are TCP/IP connected over leased 9.6Kbps/64Kbps lines via Cisco routers. In general, the network is multi-segment, multi-subnetted. Questions: 1. Does anyone operate Sybase over a wide area TCP/IP network? If so what are your experiences? 2. Does anyone operate Sybase over a multi-segment (routed) network? If so are there any problems? 3. Do you see any major flaws? Is there any way to improve the system's reliability? Performance? Please send responses back to my E-mail address (spoelhof@kodak.com). Thanks in advance!
