A while back I posted a bunch of questions about VMS database packages. From the responses I came to the (apparently) erroneous conclusion that VAX/Rdb supports segmented strings in SQL (I probably didn't read the responses closely enough). I have finally received Rdb (version 3.1b from the July CONDIST CD-ROM distribution), and looking through the manuals and release notes, it appears that segmented strings are supported only in RDO (or RDML, or whatever you'd use instead of SQL, which I haven't started reading about yet). I'd like to use SQL (for portability), but I need segmented strings (for polygon and curve data, if anyone cares). What's the story here? Is a new version that supports this imminent? Can I mix RDO (or whatever), in a program that is mostly SQL? Can I get at the segmented strings in any way at all in SQL (I was planning to use the module language version)? (Help?) I'm a complete novice when it comes to DBMS's, and am learning from the manuals. There are 11 binders worth of manuals, and I need to know which ones to read! :-) -- Terry Poot <tp@mccall.com> The McCall Pattern Company (uucp: ...!rutgers!ksuvax1!mccall!tp) 615 McCall Road (800)255-2762, in KS (913)776-4041 Manhattan, KS 66502, USA
