I have an Onyx C8000 8-user system with 20 Mbyte IMI voice coil drive and a quarter inch cartridge tape(approx 10Mbytes). The operating system is Interactive System (Santa Monica, CA) earlier version of unix called IS1. About 3 week ago, it died due to power supply failure. I took it to Onyx factory for repair and complete diagnostic. I told them NOT to touch the disk drive without approval from me. Last thing I heard from the support department (2 weeks ago) was that they 'suspect' the disk drive was bad. 3 days ago, they told me the box was 'ready for me to pick up'!! After further questioning, I found that they've replaced the disk drive, tape drive and the power supply. Furthermore, today, I found that their drive they replaced mine with is in different fromat than that of the original drive I got. In other words, my IS1 boot tape won't load and I can't get my IS1 back (consequently, I'll loose all programs (2 years effort) I developed on that machine with my partner). The only way I can have a 'running machine' is to buy the system III from Onyx which is not likely to be compatible with software I developed. I refused to pay the $1900 repair bill while looking for alternatives and legal remification. Is there anyone who can offer me advice and/or connect me to someone who has such a box that I can load my software to and print it out (or load it to my CPM box)?? I'm willing to negotiate compensation for doing it. Please send response mail to hplabs!amdahl!lyn ....I appreciate it. Leonard Ng
