I'm trying to install Oracle for Macintosh v1.2. Unfortunately, on 4 out of 5 Mac I've tried, I can't manage to start the kernel from the System Stack. HyperCard terminates soon after I press the 'Start local Oracle' button. The error notification says that HyperCard ran 'out of application memomry' (under Multfinder) or that System Error ID -25 occurred (under SingleFinder). Technical support tells me, that all other 60 installations of v1.2 in Germany don't have any problems. I didn't have this problem with version 1.1. Obviously, I must be doing some stupid mistake. I've tried all the usual things. Among other things, I moved all INITs and CDEVs out of the System Folder, I fiddled with the Application Memory Size, I updated the system software, ... A few times I was lucky enough to manage to start the kernel. But when I then tried to locate the problem, strange things happened. Moving an INIT into the System Folder and restarting always seems to produce the error. But removing the INIT again might of might not leaves me with a functioning Oracle. When Oracle is broken, it sometimes helps to replace ior.ld, sometimes even a completely new installation of Oracle won't work. Sometimes the system seems to be the problem, sometimes updating the system doesn't do anything. I don't really know what try next. Same for German technical support.
