We are interested in doing a comparison of logic programming systems with database systems. Has anyone compared a database-like program coded in a logic programming language such as Prolog with the same program coded in a commercial database system such as Ingres or Oracle? Please give details of your comparison, with the programs, machines, and systems you have compared, and the time and space results of the comparison. How difficult was it porting from one system to the other? How does the source program size compare? And the memory usage? How difficult is it to interface Prolog with a database? What are the trade-offs in deciding what parts of the problem are to be implemented in Prolog and on the database system? In what ways can logic languages or database systems be extended to incorporate more of each other's abilities? What are the implementation and performance questions in doing such extensions? Please send me e-mail giving any experience you have had in relation to any of the issues touched by these questions. If there is enough interest I will post a summary to the net.
