We are in the process of trying to see if we can standardize on an RDBMS product within our university. The goal is to get some sort of site-license arrangement with a vendor and have one "supported" RDBMS that people here could easily get for their system. We don't expect to ever be able to find one product that satisfies everybody since "standards stifle creativity" but we feel it is worth at least having something that's "good enough" for most things and has the right hooks to talk to other vendor's products. I'd appreciate any feedback you could give me about what you've decided or talked about at your institution. Please reply via mail and I'll summarize to the net. If you wish your response to remain confidential, please indicate so. Thanks! Alan Crosswell Center for Computing Activities Columbia University
