Subject: RapidFile help needed.
Keywords: RapidFile, file format

I am doing some consulting work for a friend who uses RapidFile (from Aston
Tate) exclusively. Most of his office help are computer novices and he
prefers RapidFile's simplicity and ease of use.

Unfortunately, there are several key things he needs to do which RapidFile
cannot accomplish. My approach has been to have RapidFile write a
comma-delimited file, then process that file and import it back into RapidFile.

While this works it has several problems:

	It triples the disc space he needs;
	RapidFile cannot import it's own exported date format correctly;
	Even with macros, his office help has managed to goof it up;
	It is sloooow.

What I'd really like to do it directly read & write the RapidFile *.rpd file.
Tech Support at AT says the format is proprietary and wouldn't send me a spec.

Can anyone out there in netland help. I really cannot afford the time to
reverse engineer the data format but will if there's no other choice. Any
information, pointers, etc would be greatly appreciated. But please no "It he
switched to ...", he's really sold on RapidFile and won't consider changing.

Thanks,
DaveB
