[comp.databases] .dbf file problem

I have a .dbf file that is about 11Meg big and has about 20,000 records.
Over the past month, something strange has happened to a few records, the
fields seemed to shift to the right and in some fields the data has been
replaced with jibberish.

I suspect that the file is "corrupt," however, I'm not quite sure what this
word implies.  Is there a way to fix it? Has this happened to someone else?
