I not a database programmer (by nature), but often times I have need for database type capabilities in my software. I've always written application specific code that was "good enough" but never the general solution. So, I'm interested in the "small db" information request recently posted. But there seems to be an additional issue here, what is the difference between a large database and a small database? One person suggested that in a large database there is data persistance. Where as in a small database (ie, something used within a single program) suggests that the data is manipulated, analyzed and reduced. Its easy to think of examples of large databases (Sybase, Oracle, etc.), but are there any examples of small databases. I suppose not, since these would take the form of code libraries for which the market is weak. Eric -- Eric ericco@ssl.berkeley.edu
