[comp.databases] Foxbase+/DOS/LAN crashes in light-bar menus.

alan@mq.com (Alan H. Mintz) (10/24/90)

We have a fairly large (4-5 Mb) application written in Foxbase that
a number of DOS users have been having problems with. The problem
occurs when a pop-up light-bar menu is used. As the menu is being drawn,
the program will crash completely and start spitting gibberish onto the
screen, interminably. The only solution is to reboot the machine.

The problem seems to be specific to some kinds of hardware, as not all
of our (few) DOS users experience the problem. Fox claims that they
"know" about the problem and it was fixed in the latest release, which
I obtained. This new release seems to only alter the manifestation. On
some machines, it simply screws up the look of the menu, but continues
to run. On another machine, it just started spitting "-" characters.

There doesn't seem to be a way to get past the "front-line" folks at Fox
to get someone to give me a definitive answer. Has anyone else seen this ?
