[comp.databases] sdb

drool@bisco.kodak.COM (Drool Rockworm) (12/24/90)

I have recently acquired the source code to SDB (Simple Database System)
by David Betz. The package comes with pretty good documentaion for using
the system interactively. However, information about using sdb from within
a C application is sparse. I have actually integrated the object files into
my application though.

My problem is that whenever I do a db_retrieve accross multiple (two in my
case) relations, it takes FOREVER. REALLY. My databases are not that large,
yet multiple relation accesses are running over 30 minutes. What I am hoping
to find is someone with better documentation on the calls available to me
from the sdb source. Perhaps there is a quicker way to do what I am
attempting (which is to limit records selected to those in both files that
match a certain criteria). Matching the criteria is quick. Deciding if they
are in both relations takes forever. I currently do it via one SQL type
request to db_retrieve. The fetch then takes forever.

I have tried to contact the author, but the phone # in the docs has been
disconnected and information has no new number for him.
