Are there any DB2 users in this database group? I'd like to contact others using this product; there's a lot of crossover with entries on SQL for Oracle and the like, but nothing specific to IBM's mainframe DB2. Phil Z

Yes, there are DB2 users here -- at least one. Nothing specific, just a feeling for DDF as people start implementing the new facility. I'm planning to install DDF on our DB2's in the next couple of months, mostly to see how well it performs. Assuming Top Secret provides this support, that is definitely the way to go from the start, from your highest level up. We also use the Focus DB2 Interface, and all I can say is that it's quite anti-climactic from my standpoint (systems programmer) in that you simply bind a dynamic SQL plan and never touch the thing again. The real issues are the same as with QMF: what the users do with the thing afterwards, and I don't know that Focus has a governor to limit the work done in QMF. As far as chargeback, we run with Accounting Trace 1 on, and charge via a MICS component for the cpu as cut on the 100 & 101 SMF records. DASD is the standard stuff- the high level in the storage group VCAT is used to charge back. DASD people hate DB2 because they always complain that it doesn't fit any of the SMS schemes- the only qualifier that can be changed is the first level. But that's adequate for billing. Phil Z.
