[comp.databases] Ingres Integrity Checks

pditallo@uswat.uswest.com (Paula Ditallo) (01/22/91)

Hello Again Gurus, Wizards and "Seasoned Ones",

I just thought I'd drop a line and thank you all for that
last set of responses on the VIFRED/vi 'thing'....

	...I've got another request...

		..this one is on ABF/4gl...

I am trying to come up with a generic 4gl routine which will be able to
backup to the previous record.

..also..an update or an add to the database with integrity checks
...which has failed due to the integrity checks does not appear to
issue any specific message....just a 0 rows returned. I realize i can
protect against this through a maintenance application...however there
are some folks here who want to be able to update/add
directly through sql/isql...and need some sort of message telling them that
the update/add failed due to an integrity violation...does anyone know
whether something needs to be set ...(i.e. II_whatever, ING_something)...
or whether this is only happening with 6.3/01 - Sun4.1 ?
...or whether I should just accept a 0 rows returned as a logical end for
data that shouldn't be updated!!!?????

				thanks,
