I am interested in the idea of fuzzy matching in the database context. Given a query, in addition to the system returning the exact matches, I would like it to report near misses as well. Each near miss will be assigned a number representing the goodness of fit. Has much work been done in this area? I would be most grateful if you could point me to any relevant papers or systems. I am already familiar with the ideas of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic. Thanks in advance.
