The Ingres Ver.6 is said to have a Ver.5 compatability mode. Has any body actually used this compatability mode? What we're interested in is :- 1) What changes do we have to make to our ESQL that accesses the database. 2) What changes do we need to make to our database? 3) Does the Compatability mode mean that the 'features' that were in Ver.5 are simulated in Ver.6. E.g we came across a case where if 2 rows were identical then one of them would be thrown away in Version 5 and hence we had to produce a workaround BUT this is said to be fixed in Version 6. Therefore ... would Comp. Mode give us the version 5 bug (sorry ... feature). 4) The performance of Version 6.3 is said to be slower than version 5 and if we run comp. mode we would assume that it would be even slower. Hence we would need to rewrite our ESQL to bring it back up to speed. Is this true? 5) How long would it take to prove/find out about the above? Given that we need to install the Ver6 alongside Ver.5? Answers on a postcard ... :-) No, seriously ...
