[comp.databases] Oracle ReportWriter Question

bbeckman@silver.ucs.indiana.edu (Beth Beckman) (07/11/90)

I have Oracle ReportWriter installed on my DOS PC and I'm connecting
to a remote database on a SUN Workstation via TCP/IP. My problem is
that my PC locked up in ReportWriter, so I re-booted by PC, and now
when I try to logon to ReportWriter, I receive the following message:

"Another person is already using SQL*ReportWriter while logged on to
the same ORACLE account as you."

What do I do? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

It sounds like the SQL*Net connection was never properly closed on the
SUN side, which is reasonable given that you rebooted the PC... If the
SUN process has not been blown away by now (there's a background process
that's supposed to take care of this), you will need to either kill it
manually (if you can identify it - look for an oracle background process
with no corresponding foreground process that's been idle since the time
you rebooted) or shut down and restart the SUN database, which will release
all locks.

To all Oracle Gurus:

I have a strange ReportWriter problem.

We are running ReportWriter ver 1.1.10.4, RDBMS ver 6.0.27.8.0 on VAX/VMS.

The Problem:
I am retrieving fields A and B and multiplying them together to get
field C. When we go to create/print the report, SOMETIMES the
calculation computes correctly and field C prints throughout the report
as it should... other times (most of the time) the report prints about
half way through, printing fields A,B, and C and then stops calculating
field C. Where the calculation stops is not consistent.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
