I plan to purchase Oracle Tools & DBMS for DOS (ver. 5.1C). It seems to me the price is very expensive (over $1,000) as compared with other DBMS packages such as RBASE, PARADOX, DBASE etc. I would like to know if it is wise to spend that much money to buy DOS Oracle. If you have used DOS Oracle, could you please share your experience with me? Thanks in advance swie@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu

Paradox is FAR more user-friendly than any of the databases you mention and has a good programming language to boot. Dbase has an excellent programming language, but is still not what I'd call a user-friendly software package. I've had no experience with RBASE. There are LOTS of DOS databases to choose from that would be easier to use and maintain than ORACLE. If DOS is the only platform you use, you'll be far happier with a different database.
