[comp.databases] Database selection for SCO Xenix 2.3.2 - help needed!

pen@tuura.UUCP (Pekka Niemi) (03/15/91)

Hello, Netlanders!

I'm working on a database project within SCO Xenix 2.3.2. At the moment
we are choosing tools for the implementation. Among the ones considered are
DBMan, QuickSilver and FoxBase - ie, something from the "lighter" end of
db-systems. What we need for doing oud decision is some data about
applications mentioned. This doesn't mean any seller's information, that
stuff we are fed up with!

Among the properties we are interested in are
	- terminal handling; how terminal-independent the tool is
	- multiuser capabilities; how easy is it to implement a shared
	   database
	- indexing/ordering and multinational character set support
	- Dbase/DBMan compatibility
	- does the tool have any value-added functions
	- does the tool have any statistical functions
	- how easy is it to interact with the environment
	- how long have you been using the product
	- list price
	- known bugs
	- comments about the manuals
	- especially about QuickSilver:
		- the quality and readibility of the C code produced
		- which C standard does it *really* support (ANSI / K&R)
		- the C interface; how easy is is to interact with the
		   database?

I will summon later, if need be. Thanks in advance!
