[comp.databases] Is there an ftp-able archive of PD SYBASE source?

rpburry@ncs.dnd.ca (Paul Burry) (03/16/91)

The subject pretty much says it all.

On the internet there are many archives of source for applications and
libraries written in C, Ada, Perl, etc.

Are there any archives of SYBASE source? Ingres? Oracle?

the SYBASE system is a proprietary, copyrighted system that is available for
use by license only. licenses usually cost money, but always involve a legal
contract. if you want source, i think the only source code sybase sells is
that of DB-LIBRARY (or OPEN CLIENT), the programming library which
connects all front-end programs to SQL Server. source for other parts of
the system, most notably SQL Server, is not available. Come on, folks, how it
works is a secret!

i'm not in product marketing or legal, so take my statements accordingly.
the answer to your question is: Sybase is NOT public-domain.

I'm afraid you misunderstood my poorly worded request.

I wanted to know I there were any archives of freely-distributable source
written in Transact-SQL.
