We have been told by our sponsor that we cannot continue indefinitely with the problems we continue to experience with INGRES version 6 on our current platforms. We have been given apx. 2 months to develop an alternative, "alternative" being any of a number of options, including another DBMS. Ignoring the issue of who will pay for this (tho attorneys will most likely "win" regardless), one possible option is to retain INGRES but move to another hardware platform (for server functions, since that is where we continue to have serious problems. Since this may well be a matter of "jumping from the frying pan into the fire", I am asking for input: Are you running a moderate-to-large scale production database successfully under a version 6 INGRES release that you consider to be stable ? If so, I would appreciate hearing from you. I would appreciate a minimum amount of information about your application (generic information, such as data- base size, number of tables, number of users, and general scope of activity would do: I don't need to know what the application actually is) AND the platform(s) you are running on. I would also like to know about any problems you ARE having with INGRES 6. many thanks, greg pavlov, pavlov@stewart.fstrf.org
