We are looking for a relational DBMS that satisfies, at least,
the following criteria:
- VERY ROBUST AND RELIABLE
- runs on Sparcs (Sun-OS 4.1 & above),
and preferably sequent symmetry, HP 9000/800 (HP-UX 7.0) and
HP 9000/300 (4.3 BSD - Mt.Xinu)
- Multi-user support & Concurrency control
- Graphical User interface for database creation,
data entry, retrieval, back-ups, reorganization etc.
- High level query language based on relational algebra
or relational calculus.
- C interface
- FRONT-ENDS FOR MAC, X11 WINDOW SYSTEM.
The end users are expected to be both sophisticated
(graduate and undergraduate students testing the
limits of the system) and not necessarily sophisticated
(say, work-study students who may or may not have
the necessary background).
I would appreciate any COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS (BASED
ON YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE) ON SUCH PRODUCTS
AS ORACLE, PARADOX, INGRES, FOXBASE ETC.
Are there companies that provide graphical user
interfaces to Univ. Ingres 8.9 for
Macs, X11 window system?
