Hi, I am doing this for my cousin whose company is looking for someone who is willing to sell a copy of Clipper 4.0, which I am told is also known as Summer of 87. The company that has developed Clipper, Nautican???, will not sell Clipper 4.0 since Clipper 5.0 has now been released. Supposedly, selling copies of software that you legally own is also legal. First off I have to echo Tom. It isn't legit to upgrade software then sell the old disk set and manuals. But, telling someone that they can't have an older set of code is not great stuff either. There are some legitimate reasons to want another copy of 'old' software. Even tho the programmers would rather not support it and books aren't available, etc. if one wants it and it does the job then one should be able to get it. So here's what I do. I buy a copy of the latest version and then beg, borrow, <make an exact duplicate of> the version I want. A downgrade so to speak. If this is for some reason not legit then I will be very surprised since a purchaser of version 1.0 may upgrade indefinitely and use any version he so chooses, not just the latest one. And if some legal eagle makes convincing sounds about the legality of 'downgrading' then I think I'd just do it anyway. Latest versions always cost more than prior so who is being hurt financially?
