I'm working with some people who are trying to decide on a faily small database system (<=20MB of data) for several (~5) users. I'm trying to get some idea of the costs involved with a decision to use our HP9000 as the platform for the database operation (either as a server in a client/server model, or as the actual machine upon which a local database would run). My general understanding is that minicomputer databases tend to be MUCH more powerful than their microcomputer counterparts, but also much more expensive as well. Previous postings on the group seem to suggest BASE university prices for client/server databases such as ingress and Oracle in the $5K-$10K range. Is this accurate? Are there cheaper databases available? I'm particularly interested in base price information on the following options for minicomputers (HP9000 series in particular, single server, 5 users). Oracle Ingres Sybase Informix Any information on pricing (however rough) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nate Osgood
