c Hmmm... since there seems to be some amount of receptiveness to non- rock-and-roll and loud music entries here (I tried this once before..), here are a few album recommendations from my recent purchase history: First and ForeMost! "Slow Circle", by Alex de Grassi, on Windham Hill Records (which is Will Ackerman's company). I forget if I mentioned this in an earlier round. This is an album of excellent acoustic guitar music. Technically very fine, but unlike a lot of guitar albums (e.g. Kottke, Renbourne) it is not just show-off; it's melodic and extremely pleasing. (Pay attention, cak) "Blue Rider", Chris Williamson on Olympia. Female vocalist; all songs written by her. Some nice tunes of varying types. I can't classify this, exactly; I guess it is sort of light rock, in the same way that Stevie Nicks "Belladona" album is. Actually, that is probably as good a verbal description as I can give: if you like "Belladona", you may like this album. "Working on Wings to Fly", Cindy Kallet, Folk Legacy Recordings. Most definitely folk music; she sings and plays the guitar and there is very little other accompanying music (just an occasional vocal harmony). All songs are written by her; most of them give the 'feel' of New England... even though they may not be about this area specifically, she sprinkles images of ocean, cape, mountains, etc. throughout. The lyrics are many times thoughtful, evocative of many things, and with the pleasant melodies tend to stay in my mind. Unfortunately this is her only album; she has many other nice songs which can only be heard at her performances. I'm afraid I have little talent at describing music, but I hope this does some good anyway... Mark Mallett
